Meta’s AI-powered Ray-Bans were made for geeks, but an untargeted group is scooping them up.
The blind. For them, the $300 product is liberating and life-changing.
Thanks to Meta, visually-impaired people can now navigate the world more easily and safely. They can read menus, books, and identify objects in their home and products at the store.
Of course, it is not without problems. Sometimes the AI gets things wrong.
But there’s an app for that too…
In November, Meta’s Ray-Bans were integrated with Be My Eyes, an app that connects people with poor vision through video calls to 770,000 sighted volunteer helpers.
Now, if a task is critical like taking a medicine and users don’t want to trust the AI, they can have human help via Be My Eyes.
This is a great story, the Wall Street Journal has more details .
